These management plans were produced as part of the MSc and Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Management (Countryside Management / Protected Area Management) at Birkbeck College. The course is designed to enable those working within conservation and management sector or those hoping to change career to study for a postgraduate qualification whilst in post. It is based on a series of occasional two day meetings held in London together with residential weeks in Snowdonia and Suffolk and professional training modules for example in management planning and ecological survey and monitoring. The majority of the teaching is given by professionals e.g. from relevant Government agencies (e.g. Natural England), NGOs (e.g. RSPB), consultants and academics who are experts in the topic – thus giving the students access to current thinking and real world situations on a range of relevant topics and a chance to network with professionals as well as undertaking individual research and reading to explore issues in depth.
